Leading with passion to break the impossible

For over 80 years Swiftships has designed, built and sustained military and commercial vessels, from the first aluminum shallow-water hulls to today’s autonomous platforms.

  1. 1942

    Sewart Machine Works

Swiftships’ predecessor is founded by Fred Sewart, and renamed Sewart Seacraft at the tail end of WWII.

“My vision was to create a ship with an aluminum hull that excels in shallow water military engagements.”

    Fred Sewart · Founder, 1942
  2. 1965

    The Swift Boats

A key supplier of “Swift Boats” to the US Navy in Vietnam: fast patrol craft for river channels most designs could not reach.

  3. 1970

    Into new markets

Calvin A. LeLeux takes the helm, building today’s foundational principles and opening markets around the world.

“My whole life and passion has been building boats.”

    Calvin A. LeLeux · CEO, 1970–2019
  4. 1979

    General expansion

Shipyards open in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, with joint-venture operations in Singapore: supply vessels, oceangoing barges, crew boats and specialty craft.

  6. 2021

    Ghost Fleet to MUSV

After converting the commercial hull “Riley Claire” into an unmanned platform, Swiftships is selected by L3Harris to build the Navy’s Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle.

  7. 2022

    Co-production in Egypt

Build, operate and transfer: technology and production transferred to Egypt, with 16 more 28 m patrol craft contracted toward a 50-craft requirement.

500+Egyptians trained to build and maintain the craft
  8. Today

    Autonomy at scale

Pioneering the build and conversion of autonomous vessels, while growing co-production and MRO worldwide.
